Pencak Silat
『Pencak Silat first made its debut in 2018 Asian Game and it has integral parts of the Malay ethic group, who are the native inhabitants in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. It is divided in to Spiritual, Self-Defense, Culture/Artistic traditional Marital Arts.
What is Pencak Silat?
Pencak Silat has a movement of Japanese Karate, Power of Thailand Muay thai and China Kung fu which unites as martial arts and gains fame all around the world. Now bodyguard and Special Forces are using it. Recently it has been an official martial event as Martial Art for 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Game.

- Single performance(Tunggal : Men, Women) : Begin with bare hand followed with weapon movement follow with long knife(golok) followed by the long stick (toya)
- Double performance(Ganda : Men, Women) :
The participants performs the richness technique of jurus attack-defense with bare hands and with weapons.
- Team performance( Regu : Men, Women) :
It is performed according to sequence of movement and accuracy by the team
Scoring System
Score 1 : An attack by hand successfully hitting the target without being blocked
Score 1+1 : Successfully avoiding opponent’s attack and immediately followed by a successful counter attack by hand
Score 2 : An attack by foot successfully hitting the target without being blocked
Score 1+2 : Successfully voiding opponent’s attack and immediately followed by a successful counter attack by foot
Score 3 : Direct attack that successfully drop the opponent
Score 1+3 : Successfully grabbing the opponents leg followed by a successful dropping technique
Scoring System
Pencak Silat is a traditional Southeast Asian martial art that is widely practiced in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Philippines. With the meaning of “artistically defending,” Pencak Silat is a comprehensive martial art that combines spirit, training, self-defense, culture and sports which can be applied in actual fighting.
Pencak Silat was first spread among Islamic culture while it was originated and developed from the sport that was practiced by royal family of Malaysian people. Without a religious overtone, the worldwide Pencak Silat population has been increased among non-Islamic culture countries. The martial arts has about 60 national federations/associations worldwide and is practiced by troops and special agents of around 100 countries. A well-known example is Gurkha soldiers, which was introduced in Korea through the movie “The Man from Nowhere” (2010).
Pencak Silat was adapted into competition format as the Indonesian, Malaysian, Singapore and Brunei Pencak Silat federations/associations have established the International Federation in Indonesia in the year of 1980.
